I'm Brian, and I run Elk Grove Mattress & Furniture on Locust Street. When someone walks in and starts looking at adjustable bases, the first thing they want to know is almost always the same: "How much is this going to cost me?" Right behind that is the real question: "Is it actually worth the money?"
So let me answer both the way I would if you were standing in the showroom with me.
What does an adjustable base cost?
At our store, adjustable bases run from $400 to $1,400. Where you land in that range comes down to two things: the size and the features.
- Size: the twin is the least expensive, and the split king is the most expensive.
- Features: the more the base can do, the more it costs.
What the extra money gets you
There are really three levels, and it helps to know what's what before you start pushing buttons.
Basic: head up only
The basic base raises the head. That's it. It's simple, and it's the lowest price.
Nicer: head up and foot up
The next step up raises both the head and the foot. In my opinion, this is the sweet spot for most people, and I'll explain why in a minute.
Nicest: head, foot, massage, lights, and more
The top models do head up and foot up, plus massage, lights, and all kinds of other extras. They're fun, and some folks love them, but they cost more.
The two-inch test I do in the showroom
Here's what I do when someone lies down on one of our adjustable bases. I raise the head about two inches, then the foot about two inches. That's not much at all, but people notice right away that it takes stress off their back. You can see it on their face.
Honestly, after that, I don't really have to sell it. The product sells itself.
Who gets the most out of an adjustable base?
Over the years, these are the customers I see getting the most out of one:
- People with back pain
- People who snore
- People with acid reflux
- People with circulation problems
That's what my customers and I notice, not a medical promise. Everybody's body is different.
If you have a medical condition, it's a good idea to ask your doctor whether an adjustable base makes sense for you.
Will it work with my mattress and bed frame?
Your mattress
Almost all mattresses work well on an adjustable base. The exceptions are a mattress that's too firm, or a traditional innerspring. Those may not bend with the base as well. A pocketed coil mattress bends really nicely on one, so if you're shopping for both, that's a good combination to try.
Your bed frame
Good news here: an adjustable base will work in your existing bed frame. You don't need to replace your frame to get one.
Delivery and setup
Yes, I deliver adjustable bases and set them up for you. If you're picking up a new mattress too, we offer same-day mattress delivery in Elk Grove on most in-stock mattresses when you call early. See our delivery page for the areas we cover.
My advice: skip the bells and whistles if you want
You don't have to get the one with all the bells and whistles. Head up and foot up is fine to relieve the stress on your back. If massage and lights sound great to you, go for it. But if you're watching your budget, the head-and-foot model does the main job.
So, is an adjustable base worth it?
Yes. An adjustable base is worth it, and it's worth the extra money. From what I've seen with my customers, it saves your back and eases the pain. That's my straight answer.
And if you need a mattress to go with it, our mattress sets start at $100 for a twin, $140 for a full, $150 for a queen, and $275 for a king. You can see every size, plus the adjustable base levels, with our mattress deals in Elk Grove, or read our mattress size guide.

From $400 to $1,400 at our store. Twin is the least expensive size, split king is the most expensive, and the price goes up as you add features.
Will my current mattress work on an adjustable base?
Almost all mattresses do. A very firm mattress or a traditional innerspring may not bend as well. Pocketed coil mattresses bend nicely.
Do I need a new bed frame?
No. An adjustable base works in your existing bed frame.
Do you deliver and set it up?
Yes. I deliver adjustable bases and set them up.
Do I need massage and lights?
